Tivoli is an absolutely gorgeous town about 30 minutes outside of Rome with SO much to see. I had read about Villa d'Este, in Tivoli, on some travel site and saw it on none other than the Lizzie McGuire Movie ;). This was on my list of things to see from the beginning of planning our trip. And we were not disappointed one bit. Even though it was raining we still wanted to go and it ended up being less crowded and free of charge, lucky us!
Villa d'Este is a huge mansion with unbelievable gardens and fountains. It was built in the 1500's I believe and still has all the original fountains, none of which are powered, all use gravity to shoot up water. It was truly incredible to see this place and unreal that the fountains weren't powered by anything. It was an incredible site to see.
